2018 BEST OF THE BEST SMARTPHONE FILM AWARDS ANNOUNCED
SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA, U.S.A.

2018 Best of the Best Smartphone Film Awards Announced

Global Mobile Film Awards™, in its second annual edition, announced the best of the best mobile film awards December 10 during an online awards ceremony. Also referred to as GMFA, it is not a film festival it is an awards ceremony that takes place online. GMFA has been dubbed “The Oscars” of the mobile film industry. A panel of judges select winners in different categories. The judges were Liz Taylor from Toronto, Canada, Jack Lugar and Paul Nethercott from Indianapolis, Indiana. All nominated films must have been shot with smartphone cameras and have won official awards in traditional and mobile film festivals around the world.

GMFA member film festivals nominated a total of 13 films for this year’s awards ceremony. The nominated films represent countries such as Australia, Spain, Italy, Russia, Hong Kong and the U.S.

Six films were awarded for the #GMFAwards2018 second annual edition:

Best Film – Promise / Ivan Sosnin (Samsung Galaxy Note 8) Russia
Nominated by Cinephone International Smartphone Film Festival in Barcelona, Spain

Best Director – Forgive Me / Callum Pritchard (iPhone 7 Plus) Australia
Nominated by SF3 SmartFone Flick Fest in Sydney, Australia

Best Cinematography – Focus / Brian Hennings (Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge) Australia
Nominated by International Mobile Film Festival in San Diego, California

Best Visual Effects – Upend / Blake Worrell (iPhone 6S) Los Angeles, California
Nominated by SF3 SmartFone Flick Fest in Sydney, Australia

Best Comedy – 97 Seconds / Ren Thackham (iPhone 7 & X) Australia
Nominated by SF3 SmartFone Flick Fest in Sydney, Australia

Best Experimental – Yes, No / Matteo Tibiletti (Samsung S7 Edge) Italy
Cinephone International Smartphone Film Festival in Barcelona, Spain

The winning GMFA filmmakers have been invited to take part in an honorable jury panel for the International Mobile Film Festival in San Diego to select one best film from attending filmmakers for an honorary award. One of the filmmakers, Matteo Tibiletti from Italy has confirmed his attendance to present the honorary award in San Diego in person on Sunday, April 28, 2019.

GMFA member film festivals are International Mobile Film Festival in San Diego, California; Heartland Film IndyShorts International Film Festival in Indianapolis, Indiana; Cinephone International Smartphone Film Festival in Barcelona, Spain; and MobileFilmmaker International Festival in Moscow, Russia.
